New York City icons
take on a new life in a :60 spot for BBH’s new tourism spot
for the City of New York. Motion Theory directors Mathew Cullen
and Jesus de Francisco started with the basic storyline of a yellow
cab that takes a visiting family through all five boroughs. Along
the way, city landmarks and world-famous icons emanate surreal animations
that convey the spirit and energy of the city. The Flatiron Building
becomes a giant slice of cake, high heels strut down Fifth Avenue,
and from the courtyard of the MOMA, Van Gogh’s famous Starry
Night blends into an impressionistic view of Central Park. The voyage
covers dozens of city icons, celebrating the diversity of one of
the world’s great cities. Throughout production, the directors
worked closely with Motion Theory’s animation, design and
editorial teams, led by Visual Effects Supervisor Nick Losq, Art
Director Mark Kudsi and editor Jeff Consiglio to create the perfect
blend of animation and live-action, reflecting a style that is at
once retro, modern, playful, sophisticated, and quintessentially
New York.
